The surreal, dreamlike symbolism and sincere analog experimentation in Pavel Baňka’s photographic work offer a welcome pause in time and space in an era currently overwhelmed by technical and generative imagery. The exhibition will also serve as a tribute to the artist’s long-standing body of work.
Pavel Baňka (*1941) graduated from the Czech Technical University in Prague and found his way to art on his own. In addition to his own long-standing artistic career, he also contributed to the establishment of the Photography Studio at the Faculty of Arts and Design, University of Jan Evangelista Purkyně, and was the founder of the Fotograf gallery and magazine. He regularly exhibits his work in prestigious Czech and international galleries, such as the Rudolfinum Gallery, Paris Photo in Paris, the New Gallery in Houston, Fotoforum in Frankfurt, the Fotografisk Gallery in Copenhagen, and the Art Institute of Chicago in the USA. His works are part of many significant collections in both domestic and international institutions, as well as in private collections. He lives and works in Prague. www.pavelbanka.com
