VIDEOART: LENKA TAM NGUYEN & RADEK SLACH

MEMORY MINING

OPENING: 4. 6. 2025 AT 7 PM
EXHIBITION: 5. 6. – 26. 7. 2025

In our space dedicated to the medium of the moving image, we are pleased to present a joint exhibition by Lenka Tam Nguyen and Radek Slach. Both artists are connected through their studies at the Digital Media Studio at the Faculty of Art and Design, Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem. The exhibition, entitled Memory Mining, offers diverse perspectives on the themes of family, identity, and the use of contemporary technologies.

Lenka Tam Nguyen’s work has long focused on the topic of identity preservation. Her video project, Carrot, employs the motif of dong dao a form that lies between a nursery rhyme and an oral folk poem traditionally recited by Vietnamese children. Through a deliberately naive, collage-like animation based on a nursery rhyme, she addresses the important issues of uprooting and the perception of national identity with a touch of exaggeration.

Radek Slach’s video projects explore the use of digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, in relation to the family environment. In his audiovisual essay Family Décor, he creates a kind of collective memory and universal record of family gatherings. In Family Archaeology, he combines real footage and generated images to explore the possibilities of visualizing never-recorded experiences.

Lenka Tam Nguyen (*1998) studied at the Digital Media Studio at FUD UJEP and completed a study internship in Madeira. She has participated in various exhibitions and art festivals in the Czech Republic and abroad, e.g. in France and Portugal. www.fud.ujep.cz/digitalni-media/tam-nguyen
