Students of The Institute of Creative Photography jointly thematized, decomposed, and updated the depiction of the biggest photographic clichés. The sunset photography was the one they were fascinated by the most. The exhibition is a celebration of freedom of photographic expression.

„Sunset is an undesirable ingredient in photography. Like food additives. How to photograph a sunset is not taught at school. Sunset is a visual orphan, a crucified and cornered subject of photography and at the same time one of the most photographed everyday motifs. In addition, it is very democratic, it can be photographed in all parts of the globe at least for part of the year, sometimes daily.
The idea to photograph the sunset arose from discussions at the Intermedia seminar. We talked about what are clichés and conventions in photography, why something is labeled as a mistake. We’ve been looking for examples of what is not bad, but what is so ubiquitous that we don’t perceive it anymore, we don’t evaluate it, much like the banal buildings in the streets we pass most of the day, the dull beer from a supermarket or the Times New Roman font. Why not pick up a convention, try to update it, set it aside, and make it an interesting starting point for your own work?“ Tomáš Pospěch
