PAVEL BAŇKA
Exhibition: 20. 5. – 20. 6. 2026
The surreal, dreamlike symbolism and sincere analogue experimentation in Pavel Baňka’s photography offer a welcome pause in time and space—a counterpoint to an era currently overwhelmed by technical and generative imagery. The exhibition also serves as a tribute to the artist’s long-standing and influential body of work.
Pavel Baňka (*1941) graduated from the Czech Technical University in Prague and is a self-taught artist. Alongside his own prolific artistic career, he was instrumental in establishing the Photography Studio at the Faculty of Art and Design at Jan Evangelista Purkyně University, and was the founder of Fotograf magazine and gallery. He regularly exhibits in prestigious Czech and international venues, such as Galerie Rudolfinum, Paris Photo, Houston Center for Photography, Fotoforum Frankfurt, Fotografisk Center in Copenhagen, and the Art Institute of Chicago. His work is represented in numerous major public and private collections, both in the Czech Republic and abroad. He lives and works in Prague. www.pavelbanka.com
