OPEN CALL 2020

RESULTS

Fotografic Gallery gladly announces results of an international Open Call for 2020!
7. 10. 2019

The open call announced in June 2019 was designated for Czech and international artists and was looking for innovative approaches and new insights into photography, video-art, interactive media as well as paintings and drawings. The choice was not easy as we have received many interesting projects. To enrich our current exhibition program the following projects were selected:

Jakub Rajnoch, Film sideways (CZ)

In the latest project Film Sideways, Jakub Rajnoch asks a seemingly simple question: What happens if we look at the projection from the side? In the form of a unique audiovisual installation, it brings specific and completely unique answers.
Jakub Rajnoch (* 1978) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and also from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University, which gives him the necessary basis for his art-scientific experiments.

Nikola Ivanov, Přesyceni jasem (CZ)

The key concept of this project is the so-called “24/7 Society”, which refers to the current state of non-stop flow of information, data and capital, for which sleep is the last physical resistance to a permanent culture of vigilance. In the form of a photographic series and video essay, it also explores the important role of electric lighting, which has contributed both to the expansion of industrial society and to the gradual erasure of the boundaries between day and night.

Nikola Ivanov (* 1990) graduated from FAMU and VŠUP in Prague, where he is currently working on his dissertation, which is part of this project.

We have received 120 applications from artists from more than 30 countries. Thank you all again for submitting so many interesting and imaginative proposals!

OPEN CALL 2018

RESULTS

Fotografic Gallery gladly announces results of an international Open Call for 2018-19!

The open call announced in December 2017 was designed for Czech and international artists and was looking for innovative approaches and new insights into photography, video-art, interactive media as well as paintings and drawings. To enrich our current exhibition program the following projects were selected:

Aneta Šebelková, Back seat (CZ)

The first photograph of the time-lapse series Back seat was created in Bucharest, Romania. The cycle subtitled as one short period of immobility has lived through its own life since and has been replenished over the past few years. The archive of accidentally occurring and quickly disappearing still-lifes on the car back seats is kind of halting in time and space experience amidst the noise of various European cities. The series combines capturing all-embracing transience with the ability to truly find beauty anywhere. In the back seat of Romanian sedan for instance.

Andrea Sobotková, Free fall collection (CZ)

In the form of an „adventure“ video installation, the artist introduces the pilot version of the Free fall collection. The project examines places one falls down in a dream. The unconventional capturing of this interesting „phenomenon“ of the human unconsciousness contains an extensive collection of images from a bird’s eye view. These on internet found photographs correspond to descriptions of the places from the dreams by people experiencing it. Thanks to a special construction, the viewer gets to a higher level viewing the video from the bird’s eye view and thus experiencing the critical moment from the free fall dream.

Depending on the availability of the selected applicants we may call on the following shortlisted candidates to participate in forthcoming exhibitions:
Silke Koch, Figures After Gravity‘s Rainbow (DE)
Valentyn Odnoviun, Surveillance (LT)

We have received 89 applications from artists from 15 countries: Austria, Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Lithuania, Macedonia, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, Spain and USA.

Thank you all again for submitting your very interesting and imaginative proposals! We regret we are unable to support more projects due to capacity limitations.
