OPENING: 29. 6. 2023 OD 19H
EXHIBITION: 30. 6. – 12. 8. 2023

Lisa Grosskopf, an Austrian conceptual artist, stages fictitious photo studios in the storefronts of former shops, which at first glance look completely ordinary. However, upon closer inspection, we find that the “Photo Studio” project subversively examines the social norms of contemporary society. Through subtle interventions or striking modifications, Grosskopf creates unsettling shifts that disrupt traditional notions of gender roles, identities, the concept of family, and the ideal of beauty.

Given that conventional photographic studios often convey a conservative family model and reproduce traditional gender roles, the artist in her project focuses on increasing social diversification. The staging in the photo studio as a means of critical deconstruction of reality demonstrates how, for decades, photographic representation has led to the reproduction of certain stereotypes and how it could potentially be changed. Since each of the documented shop windows has been installed in a real space for some time, Lisa Grosskopf invites a broad public to engage in a dialogue about current societal changes in viewing and perceiving the world.

Lisa Grosskopf (*1989) graduated from the University of Art and Design in Linz and the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. She exhibited, lectured and performed in many significant institutions throughout Europe.
